Since Myspace is irrelevant…what would be a logical online marketing strategy for an independent musician?

Saturday Feb 27, 2010

I do almost all I can do, marketing wise…passing out cds…performing shows….but the main place I work is still Myspace, and I’ve realized Myspace is not going to help me get anywhere at this point…now…what should my next move be? I don’t want to try Facebook, because I know how annoyed I’d be if someone came to my Facebook and told me to go to some other site and listen to their music. And Twitter really doesn’t seem worth the time. I already plan on setting up my own website…but aside from that..what should be my next move?

As a performing artist, the best way is to make clips and post them onto video sites like YouTube. There have been plenty of artists who got much notice from YouTube such as Marie Digby, Tay Zonday, and Sungha Jung.

The MySpace and Facebook are portals for you to potentially network your fans, but are poor promotional tools.

However, I must remind you that due to the saturation of the market. Your talent must be outstanding, and your clip should be made with a little bit of professionality. At the least, a decent microphone.

Best of luck! And send me your YouTube channel when you do.

What are some of the most effective marketing strategies for a home based business of selling travel?

Tuesday Dec 1, 2009

I have been running a home based online travel business, specializing in trips to South America for about 3 years now. I am still trying to find out the best way to spend the money I set aside for marketing/advertising. I found out that trade shows are too expensive and do not produce results I’d hoped for. Is it worthwile hiring a PR/Marketing consultant?
Thank you

Hello there,

You probably do not have the resources (working capital) to compete directly against the major players in the general market. You will need to identify a niche in the travel market in which you can compete. Being a small business means you can adapt to the needs of a specific niche in the market much better than a large business can. Use that strength to your advantage. Find a market niche and exploit that.

Marketing question. Clothing?

Friday Oct 30, 2009

Hey!
My cousin and I started a clothing line three years ago and it has more of an urban/punk feel to it. Of course most of us know that marketing can be a pain in the ass especially for me because I’m just getting into it.
I was thinking that it’d be best to give our shirts to a few local stores, most of our shirts to on-line stores, and then a few for ourselves. But then my cousin disagrees with the idea because he thinks we will lose money that way since it won’t do any good of getting people to buy our shirts. My cousin suggested that we should do it all on our website, which is up and running but we’re not getting a lot of sales from it.
The reason why I suggested that we should give our shirts to local stores and different online stores is mainly because it will get our name out there.

So my question here for you all is: Do you think my idea is the best way to go? Or are there any other marketing strategies that I could use to get our name out there.

Here are the things we are already doing:
Business Cards
Website
Sponsored Skaters

Thanks in advance
You guys know nothing do you? I’m very disappointed in you and how dare you guys answer a question that you two have know intellegence in? Go to a college or something! man….wonder why Obama got elected into office 7 months ago!

1. You’re idea about getting your shirts to the local store is a good one. And you should list the shop names and locations in your website. Why?

Because you can gain more trust from your online prospects. It is more reputable to prove that your business and products do exists in the real world. Because many people only regard stuffs in the website merely as ‘ideas’.

2. Ok, about the other online stores. Which stores? Are you picturing something like eBay? Yes, it is good actually. And never forget to use the HTML utilities provided by them to actually, driving the visitors in eBay to your site and doing the actual transaction there and not on eBay. This may asure that they know where to find you again in case they want to buy more. Plus, you can escape from paying commission to eBay. ;p

Ok, next one. Have you think the possibility of using the other marketers effort to sell your shirts for you? Just let others to be your affiliate marketers and give them an attractive commission for that. Believe me, you may have thousands of sales each months if you choose this method. just make sure that you don’t mess around with them and they will happily get customers for you.

Just keep on going with your idea!!!

Can someone please help me in marketing?

Sunday Oct 18, 2009

Search your local newspaper for advertisements and examples of pricing strategies. If you do not have access to a local newspaper search for a newspaper online. What are two pricing strategies that you found in the advertisements? Describe the function the price serves for each product or service.

Hello - I’m not quite sure what you are asking here. Are you wanting someone to search for two different pricing strategies in newspapers?

If you are talking about the function of pricing in advertising, I would say the chosen price serves to define your market in some way with regard to whom you are aiming your market toward. In other wrds, higher price would catch people with more money!

I am an artist and sell my work in galleries. I also tried ebay - but the problem was I was creating a totally parallel market for myself - but at a fraction of my regular market!

I eventually ditched the second one - as it was about to kill the first!

[You can read more about my experience at the link below]

aybe this is what you are refering to - selling upmarket and downmarket?
Hope this may help,

Steve

How can a small business with a tight budget reach new customers both on and off line?

Monday Oct 12, 2009

There is leg work to be done for advertising off line and leg work to be done for advertising online. What are the best ways to accomplish effective marketing strategies with tight budgetary concerns?

I own a now successful carpet cleaning company, and what I did to get started was to hire a couple of students from the local university to telemarket, hang fliers on doors, and also to post frequent ads on craigslist. I would monitor their hours and commison and have them sign off on each others hour sheets when necessary. Also i would not pay them for their time spent passing out fliers if I did not recieve any buisness from the assigned area to prevent "fraud" if you will.

I am looking for software for stock Future & options strategy particularly help ful for indian market?

Wednesday Sep 30, 2009

I am looking for online/live software for stock Future & options that give alerts for for different options, like market is over bought or oversold and what one can do to get some profit (particularly helpful for indian market?

Overbought/oversold indicators and the myriad of others out there are not specific to any market. What you need is the data feed - so who supplies the data feed in the market you operate and then any analytical system will work. Just make sure the data feed is in the format that the system uses.
Bear in mind futures and options are win-lose positions. Leverage works both ways and in volatile markets you can be whip lashed out of a position very quickly. In fact big traders run contracts up and down to do just that - whack you out of your position. USE STOP LOSSES!!! Remember futures are unlimited risk, options (call ones in any event) limit your loss to the premium. Note that in volatile market the premium is higher. If you want anymore information I have been doing it for 20 years and can help.
